Stop Humming!
AC hum or buzz are the dreaded noises from the AC power supply that always seem to find their way into your audio signal. This buzz has a constant fundamental frequency: 60 Hz in the USA, 50 Hz in most of Europe; I'm not sure what it is elsewhere.
If you have low-pitched hum problems, the good news is that the source is most likely not inside your computer at all. The bad news is that it may be hard to find and fix.
- Always follow ACSafetyRules when working with AC power sources. You can actually DIE if you are careless. This is no joke.
- it's possible that some part of your audio chain may have a poorly filtered power supply. Try removing one thing at a time
from the audio path to see if you can spot a culprit. If so, try to see figure out if the hum is caused by this device's power supply; if so, get a better power supply. It's rarely that simple, but you might luck out.
- Next, check for GroundLoops. In many parts of the world, electrical "ground" is called "earth".
