LiLAQ?: improving Linux Audio Quality

Turtle Beach Malibu and other cards with CS-4237B codec: stereo cards with S/PDIF output only, no digital input. Supported by ALSA and OSS. Old ISA cards, price was around $80 US.

Personally, I (SlinkP) am still using this old ISA card. The line in and out seems pretty good, a vast improvement over my old SoundBlaster? 16; also, the Kurzweil wavetable synth, with a tolerablet 2MB patch set, works fine with Playmidi. The card is based on a CS4237B and is well-supported by both OSS/Linux and ALSA. At first I had noise problems due to the built-in SRS "3D audio"; see the LiLAQ? section on reducing noise to fix this. There is some persistent low-level gunk that I haven't been able to completely eliminate.
