Abby at workwriting reports at the hostel. Teachers always have work to do... Lest you think that's all we did on Saturday night: later we went out dancing at a club called Pravda. Lights, smoke machines, the works. People were decked out in their most fashionable clothes and dancing to hip-hop from new york! We had to feel a bit of hometown pride hearing shout-outs to Brooklyn in a club in reykjavik. We went to the club with a woman named Maria that we met at the hostel, who was swedish/indian and had worked as a farmer, factory worker, preschool teacher, journalist, and photographer, and lived in sweden, iceland, and england, all at the ripe old age of 24. The next morning, bored with working on a remote country dairy farm, she applied for (and got) a job at the hostel. Makes me feel rather sedentary by comparison. |
