Thingvellir (not actually spelled that way, icelandic has some letters that English doesn't). All over the region are these rifts in the volcanic rock. This is a historic place, the Parliament Plains where the Althing, Europe's oldest constitutional democracy, was conducted between 930 AD and 1262 (when Iceland was forced to become a Norwegian province). The Althing was restored when Iceland regained its independence after World War II.
