It's Indigenous Peoples Day weekend (formerly known as Columbus Day) and the Woodstock area is a popular destination. The fall colors will be spectacular, which means lots of tourists.
We have blocked out some rooms at the Holiday Inn in nearby Kingston. It's convenient to the NY Thruway and is the biggest hotel in the area. You can make reservations at holidayinnkingstonny.com . Enter the group code "FWW" and you get our special rate of $149 per night.
Because of the holiday weekend, you have to stay at least two nights to get the rate. Regular rates that weekend are closer to $200.
For those needing to stay a single night, a good budget option might be the Comfort Inn in Saugerties located near the thruway. They have AAA discounts. (845) 246-1565
There is also a Howard Johnson Inn in Saugerties, which also offers AAA and AARP discounts. 845-246-9511
The towns of Woodstock, Saugerties, and Kingston are all convenient. Woodstock and Saugerties don't have any hotels, but there are many small bed-and-breakfasts, plus a few budget motels in Saugerties.
Just so you know, the bed-and-breakfasts in the area will likely require a three-night stay.
Two B&Bs that were recommended to us are: The Wild Rose Inn and Woodstock Inn on the Mill Stream
Maria (Paul's sister) suggests an alternative - vacation rentals directly from the owner. For a large group, this can be cheaper than a hotel. Go to www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals
